I returned back from the upper Pechora to Yaksha, then drove 200 km to the Ust-Unia settlement, then sailed aboard a wooden motor boat 75 km along the Pechora to a ranger station at the mouth of the Shizhim River.
This is my guide Aleksey Voronin – an inspector at Pechora-Ilych Nature Reserve. He is a skillful and experienced sailor: the river with its rapids and shoals is shallow this time of a year, but we reached Shizhim ranger station without an accident.
Shizhim ranger station is really fantastic. Nevertheless it was the forests that never felt an axe I came here for. The undisturbed forests here and in Yugyd Va National Park adjacent to the nature reserve is UNESCO world heritage site.
